BK 01 — Respect Isn’t a Title

In breaking, respect is not a label, rank, or reward that someone can simply give you. It grows from the way you participate in the culture and how consistently your actions match your words.

Respect appears in everyday habits: training with discipline, entering the cypher with awareness, supporting jams, acknowledging the people who came before you, and treating others with dignity. It also means knowing when to listen, when to exchange, and when to let your breaking speak for itself.

Wins may bring attention, but respect is built through the entire journey—including losses, mistakes, and difficult lessons. A crew can support your growth and reputation, but its name cannot replace your own contribution or character.

Real respect is mutual. It is not about demanding recognition or placing yourself above others. It is earned gradually through authenticity, responsibility, and the way you strengthen the community around you.
