BK 19 — Originals vs. Copycats
Phase 2 — Culture & Practice
Every breaker begins by learning from others. Studying movements, styles, and approaches is part of entering the culture. The difference between learning and copying lies in what you do with that influence.
Originality develops when you question, adapt, combine, and transform what you have learned through your own body and perspective. It rarely appears instantly. It grows through experimentation, failure, curiosity, and time.
Giving credit to your influences does not weaken your originality. It shows knowledge and respect. The goal is not to create without influence—it is to turn influence into something honest and recognizably your own.
Reflection: Are you transforming what inspires you—or only reproducing what already exists?
