BK 11 — Listen to Music

Phase 2 — Culture & Practice

Music gives breaking its timing, rhythm, atmosphere, and direction. Learning moves is important, but those moves become dance when they respond to what is being heard.

Listening means recognizing more than the main beat. It means noticing the drums, basslines, melodies, breaks, accents, pauses, and changes in energy. The more carefully you listen, the more choices you discover.

Musicality is not about hitting every sound. It is about deciding what to follow, what to emphasize, and when to leave space. Your movement becomes a personal interpretation of the track rather than a sequence placed on top of it.

Reflection: Are you allowing the music to guide your choices—or simply fitting moves into the beat?
