BK 14 — Organizers vs. Dancers
Phase 2 — Culture & Practice
Organizers and dancers sometimes seem to be on opposite sides of an event. Dancers want a fair platform to express themselves; organizers must manage budgets, schedules, venues, and everyone involved. When either side overlooks the other’s work, frustration grows.
A strong breaking event depends on both. Organizers create the conditions for people to gather, compete, and connect. Dancers bring the skill, energy, and culture that give the event its meaning. Neither contribution should be taken for granted.
That relationship works best with clear communication: explain decisions, pay people fairly when budgets allow, respect agreed schedules, and listen to feedback. Dancers can support events by showing up prepared and recognizing the work behind the scenes. Organizers can support dancers by treating them as participants in the culture, not just names on a lineup.
The goal is not to decide which side matters more. It is to build events where both can thrive—and where the community benefits from their work together.
Reflection: What could organizers and dancers understand better about each other?
